Polyethylene glycol 4000 (PEG4000, flake crystal)

Polyethylene Glycol-4000 (Macrogol 4000) is a white waxy solid flake or granular powder; slightly peculiar odor. Soluble in water or ethanol, insoluble in ether. This product is an osmotic laxative. It traps water molecules through hydrogen bonding, so that the water is retained in the colon, increasing the water content of feces and softening feces, restoring feces volume and weight to normal, and facilitating the final completion of defecation, thus improving the symptoms of constipation.
